Uses

Parit (Rabeprazole) is used to treat gastroduodenal ulcer in the exacerbation phase; gastroduodenal ulcer, associated with Helicobacter pylori (combined with the antibiotics); and gastroesophageal reflux.

Dosage and Administration

Parit (Rabeprazole) is taken by mouth. Single dose ranges between 10 and 20mg. Frequency and duration of use depend on the indications and treatment regimen.

Side effects

Digestive system: diarrhea, nausea, stomach ache, vomiting, flatulence, constipation; rare - dry mouth, dyspepsia, burping; in individual cases - anorexia, gastritis, stomatitis, elevated liver transaminases.

Central and peripheral nervous system: head ache, asthenia, dizziness, insomnia; rare - nervousness, drowsiness; in individual cases - depression, vision and taste disorders.

Respiratory system: possible - rhinitis, pharyngitis, cough; rare - sinusitis, bronchitis.

Allergic reactions: rare - skin rash; in individual cases - itching.

Other: back pain, flu-like syndrome; rare - muscle pain, chest pain, chills, calf cramps, urinary tract infections, joint pain, fever; in individual cases - weight gain, increased sweating, leucocytosis.

Precautions

Before starting the treatment with Parit (Rabeprazole), it is essential to rule out any malignant stomach tumors, as Parit (Rabeprazole) may mask the symptoms and delay the identification of the correct diagnosis.

Dose adjustment is not required in patients with liver or kidney disorders; however caution should be exercised when prescribing Parit (Rabeprazole) to patients with severe liver disorders.

The doses of ketoconazole and digoxin have to be adjusted when administered concurrently with Parit (Rabeprazole).

In the experimental studies, no cancer effects of Parit (Rabeprazole) were registered, however the mutagenicity studies produced mixed results. The tests on lymphoma cells in mice were positive, while micronucleus test in vivo and DNA repair tests in vivo and in vitro were negative.

Parit (Rabeprazole) contraindications:
Pregnancy, lactation period (breast feeding), hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole sodium or substituted benzimidazoles.
